On top of spaghetti

The other day I went into the backyard to see what the kids were doing in their sandbox. Zachary said, "Watch this Dad!", and proceeded to fill a container with sand, and then pour it over a volleyball someone had left in the yard. The volleyball had a smiley-face painted on it.

"Neat! You're giving it a hat!", I said.

"Nooo! I'm trying to get Esther to sing 'On top of spaghetti'!"

Oh. I watched as Zachary once again attempted to do whatever was necessary to trigger a song from Esther, who was watching patiently. Finally Zachary managed to get a little mound of sand to remain on the top of the ball, and Esther tilted her head back and began to sing.

On top of spaghettiiii
All covered with cheeeese
Aaaa....Aaaa...CHOOO

She executed the sneeze as artfully as a master thespian. "Hurray!" I shouted. I had to wonder how they had choreographed such a strange and creative performance.
