Entering Up

Yesterday I sat in the car with the kids while Monica ran into a store. Esther was still feeling poorly after a weekend of a stomach virus (or something), and looked like a little sugar plum with her head wrapped snuggly in her hood. Zachary was telling me about his class's field trip to the zoo, when Esther made a benign little remark.

"Dad!", said Zach. "Esther's entering up!"
I thought for a second, and then responded with the most intelligent reply I could think of, "Huh?"
"She's...entering up."

I spun around in a moment of panic, thinking perhaps Esther was about to throw up, and then I realized that apparently Zach had learned a new word had school.

"Ohhh. You mean she interrupted you." I tried as hard as I could to keep a straight face.

"Yeah. She in...terr...upted me."

Esther looked like she didn't know what was going on. For effect, I said, "Esther, let's not interrupt."

"OK."
