I was lounging on the couch chatting with my pal, my seven year old son, Zachary, today, about what he was going to do when he finally leaves home. He likes talking about how when he gets his own home he's going to drink all the Mountain Dew he wants, heh heh. Also, he wants a dog (you may recall I don't like dogs for a myriad of reasons).
Zach: I'm going to buy a dog when I get a house.
Me: Oh yeah? Well how about a goat too? Goats are nice.
Zach: Ha, yeah, and some chickens, and piggies, and a goose that lays golden eggs!
Me: Wow, that would be nice to have a goose that lays golden eggs. That would make you rich!
Zach: You don't want to be poor?
Me: Actually, no. I'd rather not be. But if I had a goose that laid golden eggs, I would be rich, because gold is worth a lot of money!
Zach: But if you had a goose that laid golden eggs, maybe you would be greedy!
Me: Hmm... that's entirely possible. That might make me greedy if I had all that gold.
Zach: Then why would you want a goose that lays golden eggs?
Me: You know, that's a good question.
A good question indeed. I dunno, but I thought that was pretty intuitive for a seven year old.
