Money Matters

I keep hearing radio shows about dealing with money according to the Bible. They baffle me, because the gist of such shows seems to be that, if you obey the Bible's financial plan, you too can be wildly successful and drive a BMW. And very seldom do they actually quote from the Bible, which hurts my feelings. Because I want to know where the Bible says Christians have a diversified stock portfolio, a healthy 401K plan, and their estate plan filed away with a $300/hour tax and trusts attorney.

All I can find are story after story where God takes care of people that have nothing. Or, in the case of the rich young ruler, Jesus recommends that he get nothing by giving everything away.

One day I was speaking with a brother at my church between services, and he told me this story.
I got the bills and sat down at my kitchen table, and I knew I didn't have enough money. I was sittin' there lookin' at those bills, and I thought Lord, how am I going to pay these? I started counting out the money from a money roll I had.

And then I started thinking about how the Lord broke the fishes and bread and fed all those people. And I kept counting out that money. I just kept counting and counting, and it seemed like the money just kept coming! Then my wife come in the room and I stopped counting, and when I looked I had exactly the right amount to pay all of my bills. And I know I didn't have that much to start with.

And there you have it.

All things are possible! That's a wonderful testimony, and something to ponder carefully.
