My wife and I spent a quiet weekend huddled in front of the fireplace while our kids got cabin fever all around us. But we didn't mind the noise. We had the flu. I still feel run down, and Monica still had the chills last night. Thankfully, I think we're both past the "Help me, I'm dying" stage.
The last time we both got the flu was when Esther was 2 years old (she's five now). Monica and I were both laid up in bed flat on our backs, along with the kids, who had suddenly become remarkably well behaved. We had some enormous wind chimes hanging outside that kept clanging away in the sub-zero wind and were driving Monica up the wall, so I very VERY reluctantly went outside and took them down. I will always remember that day, for while I lay on my back, mouth open, staring at the ceiling, I felt that if I moved an eyelash I would die. When I staggered back inside my bed and its warm sheets seemed heaven-sent.
And I felt that way without having an enormous belly full of babies. My wife is a super-trooper. I trust the Lord will hold off the onset of labor just a few more days, until we can get rested.
As an aside, if you ever hear someone speak the words, "garlic poultice", run for your life!

Hmm-- the words "garlic poltice" seem very familiar--has my dear sister been doctoring y'all, or did you get it from the same source as she?
I'm not sure where the wife got the idea of a garlic poultice. Howsomever it was in some degrees better than a vinegar poultice. Or that foul stuff someone who shall remain nameless (dear person though they are) once cajoled me into holding under my tongue for 60 seconds (and no less!).
The rule of thumb with herbal remedies and such like seems to be: if it smells foul, stings like fire, or makes you run to the bathroom like Old Death is at your heels, it must be good for you.
Suspectu!
I think the wonders of the garlic poultice were blogged upon by myself and Irina. But, I think the idea came to all of us (including Monica) from the latest Beeyoutiful.com newsletter.
I am sooo sorry to hear about the sickness! I wanted to make y'all some [GARLIC] chicken soup, but Ben told me that it would be impractical to take it over there...
We need to move closer to you guys.
Heheh--Sharon, I agree, because then you'd be closer to US too!!
Lol--Vinegar... sounds like a person who I saw drink a tablespoonful of Apple Cider Vinegar--STRAIT. Now, I drink it in water... but not like that. Yelch.
Yep, I've been there with the drinking of the vinegar. Vinegar seems to be the Tylenol of the natural remedies crowd. Perhaps because it stinks and tastes horrible?
