What's That Right Thar?

I stayed home from work today to accompany my family to the OB/GYN for my wife's first real ultrasound, after which my entire family had an appointment with the dentist.

So between appointments, we decided to try out the local BBQ joint, a quaint little place with an airplane stuck in the roof as though it had just crashed. Simply delightful and all that.

My kids threw down, as did I, though the BBQ was just a tad tough and stringy for my taste. And then, as our meal was drawing to a close, Monica decided to finish off the remainder of Esther's BBQ sandwhich. Wisely, and quite out of character, she first inspected the meat, and noticed something stwange.

I was busy finishing off my baked beans when I heard Monica say, "Look at this vein!"

Vein? It looked like an earthworm! She dangled it like she had just pulled out a vital organ from a frog she was dissecting in Biology class. It was big enough to be a vital organ. Or a fire hose. Just... gag me.

And that's what I did for the next couple of hours. Partly because my wife thought it was funny to say things like, "I wonder how many of those we ate?" and then watch me gag.

You see, my wife was reared on a farm in rural Alabama where they ate chicken brains for snacks, while I was brought up in South Carolina drinking milk shakes and eating sliced apples (little inside joke there, sorry). So she can eat dangly pig insides with relative ease, while I... well, I will forever boycott that BBQ place for pretty much as long as I live.

Unless I'm going fishing.
