Why the DBA is so important

Today someone accidentally deleted the mailing addresses for 260,000 of the firm's clients from our accounting system. Panic reigned, and the Database Administrator was notified, who fortunately keeps reliable backups of every system we have. Each system has its own maintenance plan, with backups done weekly, daily, and so-forth.

So what if we didn't have database backups? Or what if we had backups, but they didn't work for the last 3 months and nobody noticed? That is why the DBA has one of the most important jobs in any organization.

That's also why some DBA's make well over $75/hour.
