Midtown Sightings

I enjoy a brisk 30 minute walk every day when it's warm out, which takes me about 2 or 3 blocks around the office in Midtown Atlanta. Around lunchtime the smells of the restaurants and hot dogs stands are invigorating. Getting to walk around outside is one thing I truly appreciate about working in Midtown; when I worked in the suburbs there was nowhere to walk except for a parking lot.

If you're outside in Atlanta often, you'll get to see some stuff. The other day I was out for a stroll with my brother Ben, when a police cruiser came zooming by and stopped abruptly at the end of the street. I suddenly noticed that about 4 or 5 guys had a large black man pinned to the ground. The cops jumped out and slapped handcuffs on him, whereupon I immediately turned around and started going the other way. I have no clue what the guy did, but he must've done somethin'!

On another occasion I was walking with Ben, and we saw a homeless man up ahead. Facing the bushes. On a crowded 4-lane one-way street. I thought maybe he was just zoning out or something; a few days before I had crossed the street to avoid a homeless man who was standing in the middle of the sidewalk slowly rocking back and forth.

But then he started to "shake it" and I realized he was relieving hisself in the bushes! Whoa now! Question: If you relieve #1 in the bushes, where do you relieve #2? Hmmmmm-mmmmmmm. Das whut I thought.

Don't touch the bushes in Atlanta.
