I have the extremely annoying personality trait of involuntarily cross-examining every conversation I have with someone I respect or admire. My wife has grown accustomed to my mutterings and mumblings after visiting with people at church, while the last several hours replay in my head. I'll be sitting there behind the wheel, and suddenly groan and toss my head as I recollect something that, in restrospect, seemed especially stupid of me to say.
My brother is, so far, the only other person I've met that suffers this abnormality; maybe it's genetic, or maybe everyone else keeps it secret. We can both attest that, while laying in bed at night, almost asleep, the day's events begin to playback, and we agonize over every comment we've made that may have been misconstrued, possibly hurt someone's feelings in the slightest way, or just made us look goofy.
I just got off the phone with my pastor to discuss this weekend's trip to the circus. The instant replay of our conversation is already rolling.

Your Dad is like that.. at least I was like that a lot more than now.. I used to do that a lot when I was young.. Don't know why I don't do that so much any more.. Maybe it's because I can't remember what I said so I can't replay it in my mind as well.
love, Dad
