No Santa, you say?

Here's another example of why you shouldn't lie to your kids about Santa Claus. This sitcom (which I'd never heard of before; we mostly watch PBS, if that) contained a segment where Santa Claus is revealed to be the myth that he is. Many parents became upset when their small children saw the show!

Said the executive producer, regarding his 6-year-old son, "My wife told him it was just a TV show and to ignore it," he said. "It worked. He believes her. Kids trust their parents that way."

Say what? This person is destroying his child's trust in him for no other reason (that I can tell) than so his son can be "cute" at Christmas.

According to the article the girl on the show becomes (understandably) more cynical. "Her mother explains that Santa Claus is a symbol and asks: "So you do understand?"

"Yeah," the girl replies. "It's OK to lie."

In all honesty, I probably would be lying to my children along with everyone else, if it weren't for this man that set me straight.
