The littlest night prowler

Monica and I were awakened this morning around 3:30 by loud screaming. It sounded like something horrible was happening, and through the fog of sleep I couldn't quite make out what the screamer was screaming about. Monica was already sitting up, and I could see fire in her eyes. I realized it was Esther, and according to Monica she was screaming, "SOPHIE GOT OUT!! SOPHIE GOT OUT!!" We keep Sophie locked up in the kitchen at night, you see.

Sophie's dog tag jingled by the bedroom door, and by then Monica was going to and fro in the house, trying to reign in the chaos that had unfolded. Monica was yelling at Sophie, Sophie was running away, and Esther was screaming, "I DON' HAFFA GET A SPANKIN'!"

Apparently Esther had awakened in the middle of the night and decided to take a little tour of the (very dark) premises. And while she was at it, she may as well spring her little friend from jail so they could cavort until Esther was ready to go back to bed.

You gotta love that kid.
