We're back. And it was a cool 49 degrees according to the First Baptist Church of Woodstock's obnoxiously huge marquee; much cooler than it was when we left Mobile. Before we left Mobile we made a stop with 14 other family members at the local Sonny's BBQ. Thankfully that stop didn't adversely affect our trip home, if ya know whud I mean, but the food was much better than I had anticipated.
This was probably one of the best vacations I've ever had. Incredibly relaxing, lots of food, and great friends and family to share it all with. What more could you ask for? Romanian cabbage rolls, you say? Why yes, we even had those; the best cabbage rolls in the land, made fresh in Mama Borlovan's Kitchen.
Listed below, for your merriment, are a few highlights, in no particular order:
- We played kickball on the softball field behind the church down the street. Whoever had the idea to rent the church's fellowship hall, mega-kudos.
- We played volleyball at Dorel's house at least twice. My muscles are still aching. By the way, Kathi's (Dorel's wife) pulled-pork sandwiches put Sonny's to shame.
- Kathi and Dorel's kids put on several puppet shows that were incredible.
- The food. The cooks. 'Nuff said.
- A word of thanks to everyone who put up with me periodically hacking my brains out from the drainage/slight cold I suffered for the duration of the week.
Things I didn't like:
- The kids (two of them were mine) who climbed up and down the stairs by my room at 6:30 every morning, resulting in several painful headaches just behind my right eyeball.
- The dog. See my previous blog about being shot at while trying to rescue the dog (Caine Bleaga).
It was fun while it lasted. Oh well, back to the grindstone tomorrow.
