Relaxation

Last weekend I was reclining on our brand new hammock (the previous one was ruined because we left it out all winter), enjoying the sunshine and a few quiet moments. Or at least as quiet as it can be when two kids are rolling all over you.

And then, it happened. I looked up to see Sofie the dog arching her back in my backyard. She staggered along as dogs do when they're doing their business, until I was sufficiently grossed out, but my wife assured me that in mere moments she would go clean it up. How can you enjoy your backyard when it's littered with little stinky land-mines? But I digress...

Zachary was riding his bike around and zoomed down the hill to where the hammock is strung between two trees, and immediately my wife detected a strange odour de poo. What is that? Zachary did you step in something? He lifted his shoes and couldn't find anything. But lo, what's that caked on your bicycle tire!

Nasty. I didn't think he went anywhere near the "poo spot", which means it was possible he picked up another, previously camouflaged spot somewhere else.

I watched from the hammock as Monica began her search for the poo, criss-crossing the poo spot over and over. It was apparently Houdini-poo, all traces magically vanishing into thin air. You would think if Zach had run over it at least some vestige of poo would remain, perhaps with a little tire tread imprint.

"I can't find it," she said.
"What?"

I am on vacation today, and will probably spend a portion of it in the backyard. Anxiously looking around for the missing Houdini poo.
