Is you da mayor?

Last Monday I followed my wife to my son's school to help her carry in some pumpkins she brought for his class to paint. On the way into the school I noticed the sign in front of the school was welcoming "Principal of the Day - Mayor Bill Dewrell!"

Oh joy. I already dislike coming to the school because of the "society" nonsense I associate with public school systems. If I'm not careful, someone might think I'm "active" in the community.

We parked our cars, signed in at the office, and carried two small but deceptively heavy boxes down a very long, wide, corridor to my son's classroom. I half-expected someone to shout down the hall at me, "What are you doing out of class young man?"

When we turned the corner into Zach's class, all the kids jumped up out of their seats and started waving and whatnot. I set my box down on a table, waved goodbye to my son, turned around, and hey! What luck! It's Mayor Bill! Accompanied by what I later learned was the principal.

"Mayor Bill! How are ya?", was all I could think to say. The look on his face said, "Who are you?"

I shook his hand and beat a hasty retreat. Nice to meet ya, Mayor Bill.
